The Hunger Games.... My Personal Opinions

The Hunger Games is a great Trilogy.  It evokes many opinions of mine.  First of all, the characters were mainly very good and I liked how they each played a part in the plot.  The setting was also very helpful in the way that it contributed to certain aspects of the plot. The terrain, the weather and the animals.  The time period, in the future, also made me think about what may be to come for where we live and how the technology will progress.  Along with many other aspects of the Hunger Games books, I thought that Suzanne Collins did a great job writing this trilogy.

Mockingjay and Catching Fire.

Mockingjay and Catching Fire are the sequels to The Hunger Games.  Catching Fire the first sequel tells of how Katniss's life is affected when she gets home.  Also, she is forced to marry Peeta.  Before any of the arrangements are started, Katniss finds out that herself and Peeta have to go back into the Hunger Games.  When she does get there, she makes several allies.  While competing in the Hunger Games, a genius plot that had earlier been developed frees them from the dome shaped arena. This is where Mockingjay begins.  District 13 doe exist as Katniss shortly finds out.  She is shown as the symbol of the rebellion that is happening.  During the war, Peeta is taken captive and when he comes back, he had been hijacked so that he hates Katniss.  They eventually become friends again though and after the war is won by the rebels, they marry and start a family.  However, during the war Prim dies.  These two books are very good additions to the Hunger Games Trilogy!

Panem, the Setting

Panem is the strange setting of the Hunger Games.  It is supposed to be in the future, to show how our world may turn out.  Panem was built in the ruins of North America.  I could see the area where I live either being like the manufacturing district or the farming district. What intrigued me was that if there was an unknown district that was "below the radar" to most of the population, was if there were other groups of people.  Nomadic people may have existed, or other people in different countries.  For example, would there be similar cities like Panem in Australia? Or Italy?  Whatever the case may be,  Panem provided a very good setting for the Hunger Games.

My Favorite Charactors... and My Most Disliked!

With so many characters in the Hunger Games, it is easy to pick out who you like and who you don't. My favorite character is definitely Rue.  She is quiet and seems calm in such a horrific environment.  She thinks of her family and home to make her feel better.  She uses the knowledge she gained there to stay alive.  My least favorite character is President Snow.  He is such a cruel character and is just creepy!  The fact that he smells of blood and roses was very odd to me.  Even though I have so many opinions of the characters in this book, these are my favorites!

The Hunger Games... a breif summary continued

When Katniss takes the place of Prim in the Hunger Games, the excitement begins!  She boards a train with the other competitor from her district, Peeta.  When she arrives at the Capitol, she is interviewed and brought before all of the competitors.  As Peeta is being interviewed, he proclaims his love for Katniss that he has had since he was a young boy.  When it is finally time for the Games to begin, Katniss hides in the enclosure her and the other competitors are in.  For a while she stays by herself, killing some competitors with a skill she acquired from hunting, archery.  That is until she becomes allies with a young girl named Rue.  Eventually, Rue dies and it is announced that there can be two victors from the same district.  When Katniss and Peeta team up, it only takes a while or them and one competitor to be left.  They finally win and when it is announced that only one could actually win they are forced to kill each other. That is until they decide to die together and poison themselves.  Luckily they are stopped and are proclaimed victors and are joyfully welcomed home.

The Hunger Games, a breif summary of the beginning

In the beginning of the Hunger Games, Katniss's life is described.  Her family; her mother and her sister named Prim.  Her father had died in a mining accident.  Katniss lived in Panem, a scattered area consisting of 12 districts and one capitol.  Each district is a working city that are normally very poor.  The capitol is where all of the wealthy individuals live a carefree life, unlike those living in each district.  By rule of the Capitol, a boy and girl of a certain age are chosen to compete in the Hunger Games, a brutal tight to the death competition.  When Katniss's sister Prim is chosen to compete, Katniss takes her spot to protect her. What happens to Katniss and how she survives is all very compelling and the Hunger Games keeps the reader wanting more!

What is to be Expected!

Watch this Video to see what Suzanne Collins says of how she planned the triology!

Since Suzanne Collins has already written The Hunger Games Trilogy, I do not think that anything relating to this series will be written.  However, I do believe that Suzanne Collins will come out with several other books. I think that these books will all be in the Science fiction and Fantasy genre.  This is the way she usually writes her books.  I believe that adding the other 2 books to the Hunger Games series made the reader feel compelled to find out what happens to Katniss and Peeta after they almost eat the poisonous berries. Seeing how the Capitol reacted was my favorite part.  Especially when President Snow has a conversation with Katniss.  Suzanne Collins did an absolutely wonderful job writing this series and I hope that there will be more to come from her!  My hopes are that she will write a series about a more realistic topic but you never know what will be published until it is published!
